Dosso Dossi
Pseudonym of Giovanni Luteri (1479 - 1542),
exponent of the school
of Ferrara. Author mostly
of allegorical and mythological scenes, the artist worked at the Este Court and was
influenced by the work of Giorgione and
Tiziano, that he could meet during a stay in Venice. Among his distinguishing features the
stressed chromatism, the use of light and shade technique and lyricism of landscapes
stand out.
The lemon tree reproduced beside, probably symbolizes the fertility and
fidelity of love.
