Francisco de Zurbarán (1598-1664)
Spanish painter of the 17th century mainly oriented to religious subjects. He was very influenced by Michelangelo’s work and cooperated with the famous Velasquez at the court of the Spanish King and Queen.
His works are characterized by the use of clean and brilliant colours and by an employment of the chiaroscuro technique, which grants to each creation order and solemnity.
The still life beside, where the yellow lemons appear from the dark background, signifies at its best the aim and the chromatic impact of the Spanish painter.
